Carrie Moyer

Carrie Moyer is a painter and writer who has been showing her work since the mid-1990s. Her work has been widely exhibited at national and international venues including PS1/MoMA; the Tang, Worcester, Weatherspoon, Cooper-Hewitt and American University Museums; Shedhalle (Zurich) and Project Art Space (Dublin) among others. 
Moyer’s reviews and articles have appeared in Art in America, Artforum, Modern Painters, the Brooklyn Rail and other publications. 
In 1991, Moyer and photographer Sue Schaffner founded the public art project Dyke Action Machine! (DAM! ). The collaboration was one of the first queer interventionist public art projects, dissecting mainstream visual culture by inserting lesbian images into commercial contexts. Their collaboration ran from 1991-2008. 
Moyer has been the recipient of numerous grants and fellowships including Creative Capital, Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters and Sculptors Grant and Anonymous Was A Woman Award. She serves as Governor for the Skowhegan School of Art. 

Moyer attended Pratt Institute, the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts at Bard College. In 2011, she joined the Art Department at Hunter College as an Associate Professor.
