ROCHELLE FEINSTEIN

Rochelle Feinstein is a pioneering figure in contemporary American painting and printmaking whose expansive practice examines the intersections of abstraction, language, popular culture, and politics. In 1994, she joined the faculty of the Yale School of Art, where she taught painting and printmaking and served as Director of Graduate Studies until becoming Professor Emerita in 2017. Based in New York, Feinstein has exhibited extensively throughout the United States and Europe, including the 2014 Whitney Biennial and the major retrospective Image of an Image, which traveled to museums in Europe and the United States. Her numerous honors include the Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and the Anonymous Was a Woman Award. Her work is held in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Hammer Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and numerous other institutions.

Through material recombination and collaboration, Feinstein expands the possibilities of printmaking, challenging the boundaries between painting, printmaking, and sculpture through experimentation, chance, and the unexpected collision of materials and processes
